CHMS encourages all students to read over the summer to combat summer learning loss. Reading helps develop empathy, improves critical thinking skills, builds vocabulary, teaches social skills, and provides a sense of support and belonging, especially for students who may feel misunderstood. Check out our summer reading lists for suggestions on what to read this summer. These lists are tailored by grade level; however, research shows that student interest and self-choice has a positive impact on reading, so many of these books can be read across grade levels.
